Assistant Editor
Role Summary
To strengthen our Editorial team, we are looking for recent graduates who are eager to stay connected to scientific research by supporting researchers worldwide in publishing their latest results. This is a full-time, in-office, entry-level, and permanent position based in our Philadelphia office.
As an Assistant Editor, you will:
Support the editorial process for academic research journals
Organize and manage the peer review process for submitted manuscripts
Handle professional email communication with authors, reviewers, and editors throughout the publication process
Collaborate closely with members of the editorial and production teams
Ensure scholarly articles are accurately edited and published according to tight deadlines, maintaining a high degree of consistency and quality
Requirements
Education
A PhD in a relevant field is required, including but not limited to:
Environmental Sciences, Materials Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Occupational Health
Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Oncology, Health Sciences, Nutrition, Food Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences
Skills and Experience
Excellent written and spoken English
Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Detail-oriented, with the ability to balance precision and broader priorities
Strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a dynamic, international environment
Previous experience in scholarly publishing is an asset but not required
Experience in writing and creating presentations is an asset
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $54,000–$60,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. MDPI USA offers a comprehensive benefits package in accordance with company policies.
Training & Development
Successful candidates will receive full training in editorial work, working closely with Managing Editors and learning how to process research articles from submission to publication. Training will be supervised by an assigned tutor and will take place on the job during the first six months.
Depending on your academic background, you will be assigned to journals related to your field of study or research. No prior editorial experience is required; however, familiarity with the academic editorial process is an asset.
